2012 NFL Fantasy Rookie Preview

It's still very early to be predicting fantasy rookie players to make an impact in 2012.  What's still not known is how many of the underclassmen enter (losing Matt Barkley didn't help) the draft, this is shaping up to be a strong draft at the top (1st & 2nd round) for skill position talent and deep in the middle rounds across the board.  I bracketed into buckets the fantasy skill position talent, however much of this will be predicated on where each player is selected and the situation they end up in.  

Brady Quinn for Demaryius Thomas...

Palo Alto Short Bus sends WR Demaryius Thomas to Beavercats for QB Brady Quinn ($11, '13) and $5 in '12.  The $ liability is waived if Quinn starts four games or delivers a minimum of 15 paffl fantasy points twice this year.  

Quinn wasn't surprised, "I've been doubted for a couple years now but I'm finally in the right mental perspective to succeed.  I've always had the physical tools but at this level you've got to have more than that.  I'm excited to be joining the Short Bus, I'm going to kill it for them."

Matt Cassel for Miles Austin & Stevan Ridley

In one of the bigger deals of this season, though much smaller than Chris Johnson & Calvin Megatron Johnson for Phillip Rivers, this one will impact the playoff races in both the AFC & NFC conferences.  

South Whore Jibbers ships WR Miles Austin & RB Stevan Ridley ($3, '13) to the BeaverCats for QB Matt Cassel ($55, '13).

In what is likely the start of a flood of fantasy football trades across the US, it's certainly a kickoff for the PAFFL 2011 auction season (next weekend) dealing.

With the PAFFL auction less than a month out (and hopefully the NFL lock out coming to an end shortly), I wanted to post a revised prediction on rookie picks for 2011.

Even though the NFL is locked out, PAFFL roster matriculation continues with a nice offseason trade.  

2011 Fantasy Football Rookie Rankings

I love the NFL draft because it creates some clarity for team depth charts and most importantly brings new talent into the league.  This year, thanks to the lockout, the draft takes on more importance than any other over the past 24 years I've been following the draft, because there's been no free agency or trades, thus resulting in NFL teams applying need based selections more than I can remember in past drafts.
