NFL.com's Pat Kirwan considers some teams with depth that might be interested in dealing players prior to or during training camp. There are some interesting kernel's in there but as usual football trades close to the season (or during) are far and few between because of the complexity in learning the respective new system in a short period of time.

The rich get richer in fantasy leagues when they know how to snag a player on the heels of some (or a lot) of bad news. In an educated league like ours, swooping in at the right time can be highly profitable.

ESPN's John Clayton reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia is expected to be the new QB Rich Gannon in HC Jon Gruden's
offense. When Gannon went from Kansas City to Oakland (when Gruden
coached there), the Raiders went from an average team to a Super Bowl
contender. Gannon was a fiery leader and acted like an NBA point guard
in distributing the football. Gruden wants something similar from
Garcia.

The Tampa Tribune reports now that he has officially been relegated to No. 2 on the depth chart, Bucs QB Chris Simms plans to give it his best shot to unseat QB Jeff Garcia.
And Garcia would have it no other way. "I can't really say I'm shocked,
and at the same time, I really don't think much of it," Simms said
Saturday, responding to HC Jon Gruden's decision to anoint
Garcia as the starter under center heading into training camp next
month.

The Tampa Tribune reports if new Bucs QB Jeff Garcia is to become the starting quarterback like many people have predicted, he’ll have to take the job from QB Chris Simms.
During this week’s OTAs, Simms took snaps with the first team, while
Garcia got most of his work with the second and third teams.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that Tamba Bay Bucs WR Joey Galloway
agreed to a restructured deal, signing a three-year, $7.5 million deal
that includes $3.1 million worth of guaranteed money. He was due $2.8
million this year, the new deal calls for him to make $1.2 million in
base salary, with a $1.8 million roster bonus payment, and $100,000
workout incentive. Galloway is also now scheduled to make $1.767
million in 2008 and $2 million in 2009. It was quite the busy weekend
for the Bucs.

AP reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed free-agent QB Jeff Garcia and potentially nabbed even more competition for incumbent starter QB Chris Simms by obtaining the rights to QB Jake Plummer
from Denver on Saturday. Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection who
nearly signed with the Bucs as a free agent three years ago, agreed to
a two-year deal that hopes will give him a chance to finally get to the
Super Bowl. A championship is missing from Plummer's resume, too, but
its unclear if it remains a personal goal. Tampa Bay GM Bruce Allen
acknowledged the Bucs traded an undisclosed pick in the 2008 draft even
though they were aware that Plummer is considering retirement after
losing his starting job with the Broncos last season. Allen said he
expects Plummer to play again, but would not speculate on whether it
would be with Tampa Bay. Allen also said the Bucs did not acquire the
quarterback's rights with the idea of trading him.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter has learned Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer
is expected to announce his retirement. Earlier today, it had been
reported that the Broncos agreed to terms on a trade that would send
Plummer to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a fourth-round
draft pick. That trade is expected to be nullified due to Plummer's
decision to retire. Plummer has played 10 seasons in the NFL. Plummer apparently does not want to play in Tamba, thus he chose to immediately retire.

Anybody who has watched the Tamba Bay Buccaneers this season and saw the past two week's second half performances once veteran QB Tim Rattay was brought into the game can attest to that fact that they are a different team with him under center. With news today that HC Jon Gruden has decided to start Tim Rattay this weekend versus Cleveland, I must ask why it did it take ten weeks to turn over the reigns to the veteran quaterback Rattay?
