St. Louis Rams selected Rutgers RB Brian Leonard with the #52
overall selection (#20 in the 2nd round) in the 2007 NFL draft.
Leonard is a versatile back who can play tailback, fullback, run the ball from a single set or catch the ball out of the backfield. He will likely be used as a versatile fullback and backup to Stephen Jackson with the Rams.
ESPN reports the Kansas City Chiefs have tradedWR/KR Dante Hall to the St. Louis Rams for the Rams' fifth-round pick in 2007 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Star adds the teams also swapped picks in the third round. The Chiefs will move up two spots in the round. NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports the Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement with former St. Louis free agent WR Kevin Curtis
on a six-year, $32 million deal that includes $9.5 million in
guaranteed money. The Titans and Vikings made strong pushes for Curtis
at the end, but he opted for the Eagles. "Kevin's a guy that we've liked all along," Eagles general manager Tom
Heckert said. "He's got great speed and run-after-the-catch ability.
Kevin's a calm, smart guy that just goes out and plays football. He
definitely brings tremendous speed to our team."
ESPN reports the St. Louis Rams filled the void for the potential loss of WR Kevin Curtis by signingWR Drew Bennett
to a six-year, $30 million contract that including a $10 million in
guarantees. Between bonuses and base salary, Bennett will pocket $9.5
million in 2007. He will earn $13 million in the first two years of the
contract and $21 million over the first four seasons of the deal. Bennett likely will start in place of veteran Isaac Bruce who will move into the slot for the Rams.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch & ESPN reports Rams RB Marshall Faulk,
33, will reportedly undergo knee surgery next week, which most likely
means he will miss the 2006 season. Faulk has had surgery on both knees
this year, and one hasn't responded. He is able to run straight ahead
but suffers swelling after he tries to make cuts.
