Thanksgiving Day Football

With all the holiday planning, don't forget that there are 3 NFL games this year on Thanksgiving.  The traditional two with Detroit playing Green Bay in the day's most interesting game, then Dallas hosting the New York Jets in what likely will be a blow out and the NFL Network showcasing a night game between the Indy Colts and Atlanta Falcons.  For all of you with fantasy players on those teams (ok, you shouldn't need to worry about Atlanta or Jets but the Colts, Packers, Cowboys and Lions have plenty of fantasy talent to go around), don't forget to set your respective lineup. 

Looking to make deals

I know I always believe I have an obscene amount of talent but sense I scout and spend more time on this than most people, in the PAFFL and in general, I typically end up having success both with players I keep and deal.  This year I've been very quiet (I suspect just about all of you know since I've gone from sending emails about deal ideas weekly, sometimes daily, to eerily silent) due to workload on both my primary job and side passions like FFCollective, TheWino.net and this site. 

Fantasy Trade: Larry Fitzgerald for Laveraneus Coles

Ron Jeremy FC sends WR Larry Fitzgerald ($53, '09) to Team Kitty for Laveraneus Coles ($19, '08).

NFL QB Team by Team Analysis

NFL.com's Michael Fabiano analyzed all 32 NFL team's Quarterback position for fantasy production.  He didn't go into as much detail as some may like but for the majority (AKA no keeper leagues) of fantasy leaguers it'll be a good overview by team. 

NFL.com's AFC East Team's Fantasy Overview...

NFL.com's Michael Fabiano is publishing overviews of each division by team of their fantasy value including schedule strength (against run & pass) and listing of each team's top 5 fantasy performers.  I've listed the top 5 for each team below and the overall summaries are good.  Some of this is academic but for fantasy nuts, its worth diving into the details.  This is for the AFC East teams.

Thomas Jones traded to the NY Jets

ESPN is reporting that the NY Jets have acquired RB Thomas Jones by dropping down in the 2nd round from selection #37 to #62.  Jones' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is apparently working on a contract extension for Jones with the NY Jets brass. 

Jets ink WR Cotchery to 5 year deal

The Star Ledger reports Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery signed a five-year extension believed to be worth slightly more than $20 million, with a $7 million signing bonus. He was entering the final year of his four-year deal.

Morning Game Observations

Observations from NFL Week 10 Morning games. 

Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-17 -

• QB B. Favre - he put up a strong effort against a tough defense with 2 td's & 330+ yards.
  
• WR D. Driver had (or was close to) a career day w/ 190+ yards receiving & a 82 yard TD
• RB A. Green didn't do much against the NFL's top run defense rushing for 55 yards on 22 carries
• QB B. Johnson had a better day coming off back to back poor performances, throwing for 257 yards & a 40 yard TD pass.  However he did throw a pick and lost a fumble continuing a trend that will likely result in Brad Childress making a switch in the next week or two.
• RB Chester Taylor had a workmanlike 75 yards on the ground and 20 yard receiving but didn't score. 
• Minnesota WR's again were inconsistent w/ newcomers Bethel Johnson w/ 75 yards & Billy McMullen surprising with 60 yards & a TD (40)

NJ Jets Starting QB & RB Battles...

The NY Jets appear to be one of the NFL teams in true transition.  From a new coaching staff led by the 34 year old Eric Mangini, GM Mike Tennebaum (sp?) to a changever in personnel philosophy we can't expect anything spectacular fantasy wise to come out of the Big Apple's afc team.  However in today's salary cap era, teams can surprise and Chad Pennington stepping up to win the job is a good start.  The RB position is still very much in the air.  ESPN is reporting that Derrick Blaylock will start week one, but Kevan Barlow will see touches.  Their last preseason game backed that up with neither Pennington or Blaylock playing, instead choosing to rest up for the opener on September 10th.

Training Camp Battles...

CBS' Sportsline.com site published an article today on key training camp battles that we should watch heading into camp.  The interesting ones for fantasy leaguers were Buffalo & New York Jets starting QB position and the New England Patroits RB position. 

NY Jets Starting QB Position Wide Open?

The Newark Star Ledger reports Jets OC Brian Schottenheimer, 32, reiterated that the starting quarterback job is wide open and said he'd have no problem playing rookie QB Kellen Clemens if he's the best of the group. QB Chad Pennington, though, remains the favorite. QB Patrick Ramsey and QB Brooks Bollinger are also in the mix. "I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for Chad, ever since he came out to San Diego and beat us seemingly every year," Schottenheimer said. "He's throwing the ball very well. I'm encouraged by what I see."
