East Bay Funk and Fightin' Irie made a small deal on Thursday.
EBF acquired QB Quinn Gray ($1, 2008) for QB Tim Rattay and $2 in 2008 cash. If Gray scores negative points (due to turnovers) this weekend, EBF would only own FI $1 next year.
I know I always believe I have an obscene amount of talent but sense I scout and spend more time on this than most people, in the PAFFL and in general, I typically end up having success both with players I keep and deal. This year I've been very quiet (I suspect just about all of you know since I've gone from sending emails about deal ideas weekly, sometimes daily, to eerily silent) due to workload on both my primary job and side passions like FFCollective, TheWino.net and this site.
Sportsline.com did a review of all the NFL running backs entering their 2nd seasons in the NFL. It's an interesting look at them and provides a rookie style overview and perspective on their individual opportunities entering 2007.

I.M.T. receives RB Jerious Norwood ($36, 2010), RB Ahman Green rights, K David Akers ($7, 2008), WR Hines Ward ($46, 2007) , $10, & the #11 rookie pick by dealing to Salem Beavercats RB Maurice Jones-Drew ($26, 2008), WR Santonio Holmes ($22, 2008) and the #10 rookie pick.
The SportingNews wrote an overview of seven quarterback situations that entering camp appear to be shaky or unsettled. The teams range from playoff contenders like Jacksonville to teams simply looking for respectability such as Cleveland and Oakland.
Another good fantasy related post from our friends at SportProjections.com, this one is the starting NFL QB's who are likely feeling the most pressure to perform in 2007. Funny how Rex Grossman finds himself on every one of these lists, but then again he deserves it for having the most lopsided performances in a single NFL season of all-time.

NFL.com's Vic Carucci published his list of top stars entering 2007 looking to rebound or 'Comeback' from injuries or poor performances in '06. The list includes stars who literally missed much of '06 like the Jags QB Byron Leftwich to guys like the Bears QB Rex Grossman who simply need to prove they can be professional starting QB's.
According to ProFootballWeekly, The Jaguars have made no secret about their interest in Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper. Soon after the Dolphins acquired QB Trent Green in a trade with the Chiefs, the Jaguars held an organizational meeting to evaluate Culpepper, who had his best campaigns in Minnesota under Jaguars assistant head coach Mike Tice. The Jaguars’ coaches even told their top two quarterbacks, Byron Leftwich and David Garrard, about their interest in Culpepper. We hear there is almost no chance the Jaguars would trade for Culpepper, but they will be at the head of the line to sign Culpepper if the Dolphins release him.
NFL.com's Michael Fabiano analyzed all 32 NFL team's Quarterback position for fantasy production. He didn't go into as much detail as some may like but for the majority (AKA no keeper leagues) of fantasy leaguers it'll be a good overview by team.

I've listed the top 5 for each team below and the overall summaries are good. Some of this is academic but for fantasy nuts, its worth diving into the details. This is for the AFC South.

Jacksonville Jaguars selected Central Florida WR Mike Walker with the #79
overall selection (#15 in the 3rd round) in the 2007 NFL draft. Walker is a decent sized speed receiver who has shown good hands and decent route running but played against second tier talent & tore his ACL in 2005. The Jaguars gambled a bit with Walker but the upside maybe worth the effort.

The Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich's contract expires at the end of next season, and QB David Garrard's
deal ends after 2008, so the Jaguars must decide to let them go in free
agency or sign one to a long-term contract. Even if one establishes
himself, putting the franchise number on a quarterback is costly. This
year, the tag was $12.6 million, and that's likely to go up. That means
if Leftwich doesn't step up, the Jaguars probably won't want to retain
him, and even if he does play well, he still might want to sign with
another team. Leftwich hasn't publicly embraced the idea of being the
starter in Jacksonville and has in fact skipped the off-season training activities typically required of guys HC Jack Del Rio expects to be leaders.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich has apparently skipped the teams offseason training activities, commonly referred to as OTA's, while he trains closer to his home. While this may not be a big deal for most coaches its important to have their starting QB around the team facility to show their commitment as a leader. So it seems strange that in a situation where the starter is less than clear Leftwich would stay away. Maybe the earlier pronouncement that Leftwich was the starter was just a ploy but the team to build up his trade value?
ESPN reports the Jacksonville Jaguars have settled on a starting quarterback for next season, and HC Jack Del Rio didn't have to go to free agency or the draft to find him. Del Rio said Thursday that QB Byron Leftwich will return to his starting role, ending speculation about what the Jaguars would do at the position. "When you evaluate Byron and stack him up against the rest of the league, he's one of the young, really good, strong-armed quarterbacks out there," Del Rio said from the NFL combine in Indianapolis.

The Jaguars and WR Dennis Northcutt agreed to a five-year contract worth an average of $3.4 million per season, the Florida Times-Union
has learned. Northcutt, who had 276 receptions for 3,438 yards and 11
touchdowns in seven seasons with the Cleveland Browns, also receives a
$4.5 million signing bonus. He also has 202 career punt returns for
2,149 yards (a 10.6-yard average) and three touchdowns. This is a hefty contract for somebody who has never been more than a slot receiver and kick returner but a day after the Patriots dropped $38.5 million on Wes Welker this seems like a steal given Northcutt's age & production.

Jacksonville Jaguars signed RB Fred Taylor to a 3 year extension, essentially turning his contract into a four year $23 million agreement. This ensures the Jags will have a RB share situation between the veteran Taylor and 2nd year stud Maurice Jones-Drew. This drops both of their respective values some, however both were productive in 2006 in an average offensive so there is upside.
The Jacksonville Jaguars released a statement Saturday saying QB Byron Leftwich had opted for surgery. They will update the media following surgery on Tuesday to determine how long he will be out of action, though initial estimates are that he will miss the remainder of the season. This leaves the starting job to David Garrard who has shown to be an above average fantasy starter.
Jacksonville's QB situation isn't much clearer following David Garrard's four picks and Byron Leftwich's second opinion by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham Alabama on Monday. HC Jack Del Rio backed Garrard on Tuesday saying he needed support to be successful and placing the blame squarely on the receivers shoulders for dropping balls. On Wednesday the Jaguars & Byron Leftwich announced that Dr. Andrews recommendation was to rest the ankle another week or two before surgery.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback situation is a mess because head coach Jack Del Rio isn't communicating with his team. From my perspective this is resulting in Byron Leftwich & David Garrard not being on the same page and may result in poor performances from both guys down the stretch.
