Post Week 2 Sunday Thoughts...

Below are some random thoughts following week 2 (sans MNF game).  It's been an incredible aerial attack to kick off the 2011 NFL season, I can't imagine this pace will continue. 

Rookie of the Year Favorite - Cam Newton

There will be plenty of hype spread over the next six days as the world of NFL media will both uplift and break down the genius that was Cam Newton in week one.  Yes it was a terrible defense, yes there were some massive breakdowns in the secondary, and most importantly, yes Cam Newton will surely have some horrific days of sub 100 yards passing a hat trick plus of turnovers.  But what he accomplished statistically as a QB in his first professional game, on the road, is one for the record books.  What maybe most impressive is a QB known for his athletic mobility, did his damage and broke a record passing the football.  He looked accurate, poised and able to make progressions on the fly.

2011 Fantasy Football Rookie Rankings

I love the NFL draft because it creates some clarity for team depth charts and most importantly brings new talent into the league.  This year, thanks to the lockout, the draft takes on more importance than any other over the past 24 years I've been following the draft, because there's been no free agency or trades, thus resulting in NFL teams applying need based selections more than I can remember in past drafts.

I give the Strongfighters credit, they orchestrated an often difficult to accomplish three way trade w/o the other parties being directly involved with the other.   

Winners / Losers from Luck Decision?

Now that we know Andrew Luck is out of the 2011 NFL draft, I thought it would be interesting to highligh the winners & losers of this decision and talk a little about what this means for the 2011 draft, with a special emphasis on fantasy football (b/c let's be honest, that's what all us super fans mostly care about anyway :).  

RB Mike Goodson - Fantasy Value?

One of the teams in my league, Team Kitty, made an aggressive trade near the deadline earlier this year, to secure a bye week / injury enabled RB replacement as he made a final push to clinch a playoff spot.  At the time it was criticized for the amount they gave up for what appeared to be role player.   However after a productive five week stretch, the question now is did they actually get a great value with Goodson?

East Bay Funk and Team Kitty have just completed a deal.  As usual its a short term deal for Team Kitty and a long-term one for East Bay Funk.  I wonder if Team Kitty's "silent owner" signed off on this one?
