Arizona re-signs RB Marcel Shipp to 3 year deal

Arizona Cardinals are reporting that RB Marcel Shipp has resigned to a three year agreement.  Shipp will battle 3rd year back JJ Arrington for the right to backup Edgerrin James, and he may also serve as the short yardage / goalline back as he did in the final four games of the 2006 season.  If new head coach Ken Whisenhunt declares Shipp as the short yardage guy, he maybe a sleeper, particularly for TD only leagues, in 2007.

Russ Grimm Joins Whisenhunt in Arizona

The Arizona Cardinals under new head coach Ken Whisenhunt are quickly building a strong coaching staff headlined by the hiring of Russ Grimm as their offensive line & assistant head coach.  Whisenhunt also hired Billy Davis as their defensive coordinator and Kevin Spencer as their new special teams coordinator.  Davis previously was the DC for the SF 49'ers and Spencer held the same role in Pittsburgh.  The Grimm signing is a good one for the Cardinals, the NFL hall of famer, is a well respected coach who will help improve the teams offensive line, arguably their weakest position.

Cardinals Name Steelers OC Ken Whisenhunt new HC

According to the AP, the Arizona Cardinals have hired former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt as their new head coach.  The terms were not disclosed but they're believed to be for 4 years with a team option for a fifth season.  Whisenhunt was one of the top candidates to replace Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh but he evidently felt this was a great opportunity.  "I'm really excited," Whisenhunt said by phone Sunday evening. "I really think it's a great opportunity. It's a team with a lot of young talent on both sides of the ball. The more I studied the situation, the better it looked, and the more I wanted that job. I can't wait to get started."

Rollin' w/ the Edge...

SI's Michael Silver had a text message interview with Arizona's Edgerrin James.  James is relatively upbeat in the interview but clearly is beaten down a bit from the losing...in fact its a pervasive theme.
