Brandon Weeden has looked as comfortable and regular season ready as any NFL quarterback these first two weeks of the preseason.
Week 2 NFL preseason lessons: Brandon Weeden is a Hall of Famer and Philip Rivers will be dead in 3 months.— Will Brinson (@WillBrinson) August 16, 2013
Brandon Weeden off to a great preseason with 3 TD's, 217 Yards, completing 70%+ of his passes leading to points on 6 of 8 drives this year.— Fantasy Football (@FFCollective) August 16, 2013
However in 2011 the Cleveland Browns won the proverbial preseason NFL title and their uncontested starting quarterback, Colt McCoy, looked great finishing with a 101 efficiency rating. But by the end of the 2011 regular season the team was still looking for it's quarterback of the future, which eventually led to them selecting Brandon Weeden in the following springs (2012) NFL draft.
Conclusion: There's no denying that Weeden is looking good through two preseason games. The Norv Turner touch has the offense looking balanced and Weeden comfortable, if they can carry this into the season Weeden could be one of the fantasy surprises. If history is any indication though, don't bet on it and expect the Browns in the mix for a top 10 pick and another franchise signalcaller selection in the spring of 2014.
PAFFL Projection: Weeden ($55) will be packaged with Christian Ponder ($55) for Michael Vick ($55). Vick has looked excellent this preseason and is poised to be a top 10 fantasy quarterback. His long-term future is uncertain with Foles & Barkley showing talent but he's clearly a step above those two in terms of talent and this offense looks like it will be explosive. Weeden & Ponder give Pomona Stoned Hens (current Vick owner) an immediate infusion of two starters, while the Short Bus significantly improves its achilles heel (Super Flex Starter) with Vick addition.
PS Pomona after this deal enters 2013 regular season with arguably the four worst starting fantasy quarterbacks in the NFL (Ponder, Weeden, Mark Sanchez and Blaine Gabbert).
