Unlike what we witnessed in '09 where there were essentially only 2 of the top 15 fantasy quarterbacks open and available at this year's annual auction (Tom Brady & Peyton Manning), due to expiring contracts, this next year's auction will see approximately 8 of the top 15 open.
It's actually fairly remarkable when you look at the list. Listed in alphabetical order, here are the top QB's who will be open & available next year in the auction:
- Tom Brady - likely toppers
- Drew Brees - auto toppers (can NOT be heldover due to expiration of 2nd contract)
- Matt Hasselbeck - likely toppers but depends on finish to '09 season
- Eli Manning - auto toppers (same as Brees)
- Peyton Manning - toppers
- Carson Palmer - auto toppers (same as Brees)
- Ben Roethlisberger - auto toppers (same as Brees)
- Tony Romo - auto topper (same as Brees)
And the following top QB's will likely be heldover for closer to market value as their contracts are expiring but they have another cycle left:
- Jay Cutler - will be heldover (@$80)
- Aaron Rodgers - will be heldover (@$61)
- Kurt Warner - likely heldover (@$55)
What this means is that outside of Brady, Brees, P. Manning and possibly Romo & Roethlisberger, the prices this year will more closely reflect historical rates rather than the supply constrained 2009. Thus that elite group of perennial top 10 guys should all fall between $100-$140 (depending on demand), while the second group (Hasselbeck, E. Manning & C. Palmer) will end up between $80-$100. Which is around a 20% decline on '09 prices but historically inline with the value at that position.
The excess $ will be spent in '10 at the RB position where there will be fewer studs available and a high demand to secure one of those top 15, bell cow type featured RB's. At this point it appears the only guys that will enter '10 in that position and be available are: Clinton Portis, LT, Thomas Jones & Joseph Addai - though none of those are assured of being in that position come training camp 2010.
Take McFadden off the next generation stud list, you self-promoting twat

Agree - I've never seen a back trip over his own feet more than run dmc. He goes down way to easy
