We've finalized the dates for the 2008 PAFFL Auction - July 17-20th. Due to multiple conflicts over the following four weekends, this year's date will be slightly earlier than most.
With the dates set, the specific timing of events will be as follows:
- July 17 (Thursday) - BBQ gathering, traditional league shit talk & trade discussions.
- July 18 (Friday) - BBQ / Party in the evening. Rookie Draft selections will take place at 9 PM
- July 19 (Saturday) - Auction will kick off at 10 AM
We still need to determine where this year's auction will be held. The general feedback has been a location close to the Bay Area is preferred (last year was the first we had 100% attendance, partly due to the convenience of the location). There also appears to be interest in renting a house, such as the Beach house Brian T has offered up in previous year's (BTW - Brian looked into availability for this year and we were too slow to react - thank you for looking into it, maybe next year). So our choices are -
- Beach House - somewhere like Monterey Dunes, which will increase the cost approximately $100 per person but give us a weekend location where we'll all congregate and do the rituals associated with the PAFFL.
- Palo Alto Location - this would mean events at Todd F's place and/or doing some off site spots like drinks at 'The Old Pro' on Thursday night and some coed mixing for Friday night's shindig.
Summary: The Beach house is probably the preferred but its also nice to mix it up a little. Our last Palo Alto rendition of the auction was a success from a party standpoint (my cousin hooked up with one of our high school friends in Todd's driveway and Brandon's Brazilian pull will go down in PAFFL lore for years to come).
Thoughts? Opinions? Other ideas? I know everybody has them....
Just want to throw it out that my abode could be an option if we wanted to keep the draft local this year. I've got a table that seats 12 and couch space as well. There's room.
i like the idea of renting a place too.

The more local the better, as I will only be able to get away for a night, at the most.
I'd say my votes are:
1) Todd's house
2) Beach house

I have the same rankings as Jonah. I'd like to keep it local this year and then plan ahead for next year to have it at Jonah's Tahoe abode or at the beach house.
It would also keep costs down for food and lodging.

I'd prefer to have the draft in PA as well. For those of us that have to travel for the draft (Jibbers, Irie), I think it is nice to be able to stay in the bay, have time to see family and non-paffl friends.

If we do keep it local this year, I think Saturday should work out ok at my house. I have to re-check with the wife.
Friday night, we might have to find an alternate venue.

Just an early heads up that the Fallen Leaf house is no longer an option. Too many complaints from neighbors. This is more the fault of Tadlock, Weaver, and our wives (a.k.a. the "Club Cathedral" crew), so you can blame them if you have any remorse over the development.
Most people seem to be for keeping the draft in/around the Bay from now on anyway. But nobody can ever take away our memories of Vegas.

Dutch Goose Friday night?

I'd definitely be down to have the draft in PA this year.

Dutch Goose is a great call for Friday night. We could ask about reserving the tables down the stairs past the pool tables. We could have our dinner and informal meeting (paffl-only) at the goose and then head to the Beavercats for the huge party with Team Kitty's harem of 21 year olds. Wives could stand by as designated drivers.
The draft itself on Saturday can be held at my house, if so declared.
