Thanks to a very generous offer from Ron Jeremy Fanclub, and agreement from everybody effected we have a resolution to the fiasco of this week. That said, and I want to stress this, we still need to come to a conclusion and agreement on how to handle this going forward (more on that below).
The resolution is the following. The regular season standings will be final, there are no further changes to lineups. However the Team Kitty and the Fightin' Irie were effectively tied under our previous tiebreaker rules (3 teams tied were decided by total points scored - which then was changed slightly to head to head matchups - however Team Kitty only played FI & FC once where FI played 3 total games vs. the teams) and with the disputed way it was handled, we had a Ron Jeremy and Fightin' Irie step up.
So all three teams have agreed to a one time scenario where they will play in a 'cage match' type of matchup. The winner of the 'cage match' will move on in the playoffs, the #2 scoring team will fall into the loser bracket of the playoffs and the #3 scoring team will have their score matched up against Los Frijoles Pintos in the non-playoff bracket. The #3 scoring team also is designated the non-playoff team and gets the advantages of that - specifically an unconditional cut and a topper/holdover.
The sportsline site matchups will remain as the Secretary entered them (with Team Kitty playing LFP) but it will actually be LFP playing the lowest scoring of those three teams and Team Kitty in the 'cage match' pool game.
The matchups on the site are correct, please don't forget that there is a Thursday night game (tonight) between Chicago & Washington.
I want to thank the Fightin' Irie & Ron Jeremy Fanclub for making a sacrifice in this situation. They didn't need to do what they did but its an example of the 'PAFFL' spirit. I was surprised last night while talking with RJFC when he said he felt blessed for the season he's had to date and would be upset to lose but treasures this year's experience. It was a beautiful response to what had been a difficult situation.
Now we need to come to a resolution agreement on how we handle these lineups in the future. I strongly believe that the integrity of the league is important so the right penalties must be in place.
My recommendation is:
- Make the rookie tournament open for all non-playoff teams so there is less motivation to throw games to get into the top 4 bracket. We can work out the specifics but generally this is something that's important to ensure teams a) think twice about dumping decent players down the stretch and b) reduce the desire to not put their best foot forward.
- Penalize teams $10 for leaving a bye week player or any injured QB or K in their lineup (unless they don't have any other active replacement available). The $10 in the following year's cap space per incident, which must be documented by at least one league member and formally communicated to the league & said owner. In addition, if this penalty were in place, no other owner would ever be allowed to make a lineup change for another owner without their explicit approval.
