The Short Bus hooked me up with one of the most remarkable sources of football information I have ever come across, the Pro Football Prospectus 2007. Think Bill James for football, its using statistical analysis to truly determine the value of players at their core. Football is tough because it truly is a team sport, outside of maybe Barry Sanders with the Detroit Lions, I can't think of a single NFL player (specifically skill position player) who was successful despite of his teammates.
This book gives you a statistical breakdown of each player and what their contribution to the game is, in an effort to predict future performance. I found it both fascinating information but also extremely formative in making fantasy football decisions. As I read thru it (cover to cover, all 400+ pages) I kept having the same tingling feeling I got back in 1987 reading thru the first issue of FantasyIndex (with Randal Cunningham on the cover). I highly recommend picking up a copy, you won't be disappointed.
Special thanks to the Short Bus who hooked me up with the book.
for many the prospectus is a secret weapon. this is the first time ive seen it for football and even though the draft is over im still considering purchasing the book.
the baseball prospectus is truly amazing considering the vast data available for manipulation.
