Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis was out for the second straight day Wednesday, reduced to riding a stationary bicycle because of swelling and soreness due to tendinitis in his right knee, the same ailment that hampered him during offseason workouts. Redskins trainer Bubba Tyer said Portis will return in a matter of "days, not weeks" but will not participate in Saturday's scrimmage against the Ravens. "As much as he thought he was ready to go, it's two-a-days," Tyer said. "We're going to try to modify his workout some and concentrate a little bit more on his strength work and his conditioning work without the trauma of practicing, cutting and turning. He feels a little discomfort when he cuts and turns."
Fantasy Analysis: The last 12 months have not been kind to Portis. Last preseason, he separated his shoulder making a tackle in a preseason game, then broke his right hand last November and was diagnosed with patella tendinitis in May of this year. Suffice to say, Portis is a legit injury risk in 2007. If you spend a late second- or early third-round pick on Portis in drafts this year, make sure you spend a pick in Round 6 or 7 on Ladell Betts, since he'll likely see more playing time anyway with Portis dinged. If Portis were to miss significant playing time, Betts would see all the reps in Washington, and he proved last season that he can handle such a load easily. Keep an eye on developments in Washington's backfield.
From "Jack Tripper" -
At least Clinton Portis didn't get carried off the field. Chester Taylor is done. He was a place holder for Peterson, but looks to have given that up with this week's shoulder injury. Peterson won't look back. That leaves Kitty with an unproven Cedric Benson and another place holder in DeShaun Foster. Who has Kitty's next rookie pick???

Team Kitty's counter -
Dwayne Jarrett's gonna explode in a year or so. I can feel it. He's the next Keyshawn. Too bad you can't get points retroactively, though, cause he's the Trippers' No. 1 wideout for 2007. Place that next to JP Lossssssman (currently injured) and you've got quite a squad. Let's hope that Shaun A. performs better than last years' sub 1000 yard 5 td season. Kenny Irons, I mean Rudi J., should be solid in Cincy and Thomas Jones should put up 800-1000 yards and 4-5 tds. That should help keep the Trippers out of the cellar. Here's to Alex Smith!!!

The Washington Times reports Redskins RB Clinton Portis (knee tendinitis) did not practice Wednesday. The Redskins are resting Portis now — he has missed the last three practices — so he can withstand the workload associate head coach Al Saunders envisions for him this fall. That meant Portis was limited to riding a stationary bike under the trainer's tent yesterday morning. Redskins trainer Bubba Tyer said Portis could play if the Redskins had a regular game Sunday and that he is "days, not weeks" from returning to practice.
PORTIS IS FINE, PEOPLE!
