Top 10 Draft Day Intimidation Tactics
I found this article on a fellow blog site, Epic Carnival, interesting and relevant to the hordes of fantasy football folks out there as we enter the draft (or in the PAFFL's case - Auction) season. It's the top 10 intimidation tactics for a fantasy football draft.
The 10 tactics are:
- Mr. Mute - don't speak to anybody and it works on everybody.
- The Once & Future King - need to have a track record and preferably have won the previous year. "Drew Brees. Nice pick. He was a big key in last year's championship, especially after we drafted him in the 6th round."
- Chick & Dick - female owners take notice here...
- The Constant Trader - You make deal proposals before players are drafted (or secured). In the PAFFL this team is called 'Team Kitty'
- The Michael Corleone - Dress nicely, act like you're in full control and then explode if necessary to make your point like, "BITCH! YOU WON'T TAKE MY QUARTERBACK!"
- The Full Monte - Take your time, irritate those around you by going against the grain.
- Mr. Nonchalant - "Is it the third round already? Damn, I forget all about picks when the chick can do that with her tongue. (Show magazine) I mean, seriously -- you think that's real? She's got to be some kind of gymnast or something. Oh, and give me Willis McGahee."
- Prep Overload - Bring a dozen magazines & excel sheets of preparation to the auction/draft. "These? Oh, that's just what I brought. There's a lot more at home."
- The Post Pick Concern - "Ballsy's pick! You sure his knee is ok?"
- The Stare Down - Use your size (or perception of it) to mentally push a fellow owner a different direction.
For more detail and an amusing read, head over to Epic Carnival to read the entire article.
11. The Phone Calls - This team owner will call and call and call you to "discuss" fantasy football, but their true intentions are to pester you into trade submission. Eventually, you'll agree to the trade just to have him stop calling you.

12. The Non-Offer - This team owner will contact you and ask about the availability of one of your best players. They won't make an offer for this player; they just want to know if they can make an offer. You say "yes, he's available, make an offer" to which they reply, "well, what were you thinking?"
At no point will this team owner make a qualified offer for your player. Frustrating.

I love both the 'The Phone Calls' and the 'Non-Offer' - both of which are employed by PAFFL owners I know.
