SI.com's Peter King published his first of many 'Power Rankings' for the upcoming NFL season. Though its hard to argue with his predictions, particularly at this point, I have to say that Indy at #1 is a little off center and likely a nod to their super bowl title from last season. The reality is San Diego and New England both improved themselves while Indy (which barely beat NE at home in the AFC Championship game) took a step back due to defections in free agency.
Peter King's Top 10 Power Rankings
- Indy Colts
- New England Patriots
- San Diego Chargers
- New Orleans Saints
- Chicago Bears
- Denver Broncos
- Baltimore Ravens
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Seattle Seahawks
- St. Louis Rams
Summary: I disagree with Seattle & St. Louis, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the SF 49'ers won that division at 10-6 but never cracked King's top 10 list. I would argue against 5 NFC teams in the top 10 as well, the fact remains that the AFC is more dominant and that shift back to the middle won't happen in 2007.
