The SportingNews wrote an overview of seven quarterback situations that entering camp appear to be shaky or unsettled. The teams range from playoff contenders like Jacksonville to teams simply looking for respectability such as Cleveland and Oakland.
The QB situations are
- Atlanta Falcons - with the new coaching staff & system, things were going to be a challenge - but throw in the dogfighting and it appears the entire depth chart has been thrown up in the air, expect backup Joey Harrington to receive at least some (if not all) starts this season.
- Cleveland Browns - its clear Brady Quinn in the long-term answer here, or at least will be given the shot at being the long-term answer, but in the meantime its either Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson (who looked good in limited time late last season). I would bet on Anderson starting for the first 4 or 5 weeks then giving way to Quinn.
- Jacksonville Jaguars - Byron Leftwich starts the season but he gives way to either Garrard (part-time) or Culpepper (permanently) at some point. So the short of it is don't waste a high pick on Leftwich...
- Miami Dolphins - Trent Green is the starter, and I might add, he could be the main for the whole season. If he gets hurt, Cleo Lemon is likely the first off the bench.
- Kansas City Chiefs - Brodie Croyle or Damon Huard, neither will be a world beater b/c of a lack of experience and also b/c they play for Herm Edwards, the world's most conservative offensive head coach.
- Oakland Raiders - Josh McCown is better than people give him credit for...but I'm certain John Elway & Joe Montana would look ordinary with this offensive line...so stay away for 2007.
- Tamba Bay Bucs - Is this the year that folks start realizing that Jon Gruden isn't an offensive minded coach? Or better said, that he's incapable of having a top rated offense? Again, not sure it matters who starts but barring injury its going to be Jeff Garcia.
I think that Beck in Miami is going to get a look this year either around the same time or even before they hand the controls over the Lemon.
Just a hunch.

Beck is intriguing, but Stanton is in a GREAT situation b/c we all know that Kitna is not a quality starting QB and the Lions will be looking to the 2nd rounder sooner rather than later.

Stanton and Beck are both in great situations. The beauty of it is that these players are going to be relatively cheap, probably under $30. Think back to Aaron Rodgers going for close to $40. Just DS these guys and enjoy the ride.
