Philadelphia Eagles selected Penn State RB Tony Hunt with the #90
overall selection (#27 in the 3rd round) in the 2007 NFL draft. Hunt is one of the most productive backs in Penn State history, an accomplishment when you consider how many great college backs the school has produced. A straight line runner with good athleticism, size and versatility, Hunt may lack the speed and shiftiness to be a featured back. But he is a good complement to the Eagles Brian Westbrook.
Scouting Report:
- Position: Running Back
- Height: 6'0"
- Weight: 230
- 40 Time: 4.55
Hunt, who some scouts compare to Kevin Barkow, is a strong north & south runner, who will make a living in the NFL as a versatile short yardage guy and 3rd down back. Hunt had 87 receptions for 792 yards in his Penn State career, huge numbers for a Joe Paterno coached team. Couple that with good vision, balance & strength, Hunt should be a valuable role player for the Eagles for years to come.
Fantasy Prognosis: Hunt will battle veteran Correll Buckhalter for the right to be the short yardage, goal-line and change of pace back to starter Brian Westbrook. Expect Hunt to win the position and receive around 5 touches a game while averaging a little more than a TD every third week. In small leagues he won't be roster worthy, but assuming he wins the backup role, in 12+ team leagues he's good insurance for Westbrook and has potential on his own. Keeper leaguers may consider Hunt a possible featured back but as long as the Eagles have Westbrook his potential as anything more than a chance of pace guy are limited so don't over invest.
2007 Predicted Numbers:
Touches: 105 Carries, 10 Receptions
Total Yards: 450
TD's: 6
