New Orleans Saints selected Tennessee WR Robert Meachem with the #27th overall selection in the 2007 NFL draft. Meachem is a potential #1 receiver who has good size, speed and run after the catch ability; and is a bit underrated due to playing for a subpar University of Tennessee team.
Scouting Report:
- Position: Wide Receiver
- Height: 6'3"
- Weight: 211
- 40 Time: 4.38
Robert Meachem has the size, speed and experience to be a great receiver on the NFL level. He can make all the catches, runs solid routes and can make open field moves. However he has never dominated the SEC, partly a result of a lack of quarterback consistency, and he seems to drift during games when he's not heavily involved. If the Saints can slowly work him in while maintaining his motivation, they could be looking at an upgrade over Joe Horn and one of the deepest, youngest receiving core's in the NFL with Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, Terrence Copper and now Meachum.
Fantasy Prognosis: Meachem will have the ability to slowly rotate into the #3 WR spot behind M. Colston & D. Henderson, but much will be expected as the season goes on and if 2006 was any indication of 2007 success, Meachem could be the most productive rookie WR for fantasy leaguers in the Saints pass happy system. Don't draft him just yet but don't be surprised if he's a good spot starter down the stretch and a very good keeper option in dynasty leagues.
2007 Predicted Numbers:
Touches: 33 catches
Total Yards: 485
TD's: 2 TD's
