Carolina Panthers selected USC WR Dwayne Jarrett with the #45 overall selection (#13 in the 2nd round) in the 2007 NFL draft. Jarrett, the two time all american, has prototype size and production but he gets knocked for possibly being too big and slow to succeed on the NFL level. My bet is Jarrett knocks the critics to be a solid but not spectacular, thirteen year vet in the NFL.
Scouting Report:
- Position: Wide Receiver
- Height: 6'5"
- Weight: 225
- 40 Time: 4.55
Dwayne Jarrett has tremendous size, very good hands, runs solid routes and dominated a top shelf
college talent. However Jarrett lacks speed and quickness,
and many scouts point to the lack of success of other jumbo sized WR's
like former teammate Mike Williams. The difference maybe that Jarrett
will have lower expectations being taken in the 2nd round and he enters
the NFL with more big-game experience and discipline than Williams in
particular. You have to give Carolina credit here for getting a 1st
round talent in the middle of the 2nd round.
Fantasy Prognosis:
Jarrett has a lot of upside but in Carolina he will be no better than the #3 receiver behind Steve Smith & Keyshawn Johnson. Plus the Panthers have young & talented Drew Carter & Keary Colbert in their receiver pool. So don't expect much impact from Jarrett in '07 but he be groomed to be the starter opposite Smith in 2008 as Keyshawn Johnson is expected to be moving on after this season. Don't draft Jarrett until an injury hits Carolina or you're in a deep keeper league and want to stash him for 2008.
2007 Predicted Numbers:
Touches: 36 Catches
Total Yards: 575 Yards
TD's: 4
