Chicago Bears selected University of Miami TE Greg Olsen with the #31 overall selection in the 2007 NFL draft. Olsen shocked the scouting combine running the 40 in one of the all-time record times for a TE (4.5) to pair with his known athleticism and pass catching ability. This will provide Chicago another offensive weapon to spread the ball around.
Scouting Report:
- Position: Tight End
- Height: 6'5"
- Weight: 252
- 40 Time: 4.51
Greg Olsen is a tall, super fast tight end with reliable hands who can stretch the middle of the field. However Olsen isn't a complete player and lacks the drive to be a dominant blocker, so if he can get stronger he can play at the point of attack and be an every down player - until that point he'll only be a situational receiver.
Fantasy Prognosis: Olsen will immediately be involved in the Bears offensive attack but he won't unseat veteran Desmond Clark from the starting spot immediately because of his weakness in the running game. That won't hurt his fantasy potential necessarily but it does limit his opportunities which will be limited due to the Bears offensive focus. So pick Olsen as a backup fantasy TE with upside but don't expect much more this year. Keeper Leaguers can be assured Olsen has a bright future but it likely won't be realized until 2008.
2007 Predicted Numbers:
Touches: 22 catches
Total Yards: 235 Yards
TD's: 2 TD's
