Minnesota Vikings have selected Oklahoma RB Adrian Peterson with the #7 overall selection in the 2007 NFL draft. Peterson has been one of the country's most dominant collegiate running back the past few years so this was a good upside / value pick for the Vikings.
Scouting Report:
- Position: Running Back
- Height: 6'2"
- Weight: 220
- 40 Time: 4.42
Adrian Peterson is a complete back with prototype size/speed who can run between the tackles and break tackles to go along with game breaking speed and acceleration to take over a game. Though he wasn't used in the passing game, Peterson has worked hard on his receiving abilities and most believe he'll be better than average in that area. The one knock has been durability, Peterson has missed time in both of the past two seasons and he's a violent runner, who takes and delivers a lot of big hits.
Fantasy Prognosis: The Vikings already have a starting RB but Adrian Peterson will eat into incumbent Chester Taylor's playing time, likely starting the season in a share situation but ending it as the featured guy. Fantasy leaguers shouldn't shy away from Peterson since he could easily exceed 1,000 yards & double digit touchdowns in a platoon role - good enough for a solid #2 fantasy back in 2007. This move drops Taylor but he's still a good fantasy reserve or a below average #3 starter.
2007 Predicted Numbers:
Touches: 220 carries, 10 catches
Total Yards: 1100
TD's: 8
