Detroit Lions selected Michigan State QB Drew Stanton with the #43
overall selection (#11 in the 2nd round) in the 2007 NFL draft. Stanton has a good combination of size, arm strength and mobility to be a quality NFL starter but he needs time to develop.
Scouting Report:
- Position: Quarterback
- Height: 6'3"
- Weight: 226
- 40 Time: 4.75
Drew Stanton has good size, decent mobility and above average arm strength which allows him to make all the necessary throws. He can be a dual threat, and when in rhythm he can be very difficult to stop. But most importantly he'll learn from Mike Martz. Inconsistency has plagued Stanton throughout his college career where mistakes have led to complete collapses. To be an NFL starter he will need to become more consistent and a leader.
Fantasy Prognosis: Stanton was selected as the Lions future starting QB. Combine that with Mike Martz system (and history of developing unknown QB's - Trent Green, Kurt Warner & Marc Bulger), the surrounding talent (Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson, Tatum Bell & Kevin Jones) and the incumbent starter, Jon Kitna, is 36 years old affords Stanton an attractive situation. Fantasy leaguers should only consider Stanton as insurance against a Kitna injury but keeper league folks should look long and hard at Stanton as a potential sleeper in 2008 and beyond.
2007 Predicted Numbers:
Touches: 45 Attempted Passes
Total Yards: 200 Yards
TD's: 1 TD
